The following are a list of spells and abilities in Dragon Quest V:
Attack magic[edit]
- Woosh: Deals minor wind damage to one group
- Swoosh: Deals moderate wind damage to one group
- Kaswoosh: Deals major wind damage to one group
- Frizz: Deals minor fire damage to one enemy
- Frizzle: Deals major fire damage to one enemy
- Kafrizzle: Deals severe fire damage to one enemy
- Sizz: Deals minor fire damage to a group of enemies
- Sizzle: Deals moderate fire damage to a group of enemies
- Kasizzle: Deals major fire damage to a group of enemies
- Crack: Deals minor ice damage to one enemy
- Crackle: Deals moderate ice damage to one group of enemies
- Kacrackle: Deals major ice damage to all enemies
- Bang: Deals minor blast damage to all enemies
- Boom: Deals moderate blast damage to all enemies
- Kaboom: Deals major blast damage to all enemies
- Zap: Deals moderate lightning damage to all enemies
- Kazap: Deals severe lightning damage to a group of enemies
- Kazapple: Draws on the party's MP, to deal extreme lightning damage to one enemy.
- Poof: Tries to instantly kill every enemy, no experience is earned from killed enemies.
- Whack: Tries to instantly kill one enemy
- Thwack: Tries to instantly kill every enemy
- Kamikazee: Sacrifices life to massively damage all enemies
- Puff!: Turns into a dragon for a few turns
- Lightning: Deals moderate lightning damage to one enemy
- Drain Magic: Siphons MP from a target
- Starkers Storm: Deals severe lightning damage to all enemies.
- Starkers Slash: Deals severe lightning damage to a group of enemies.
Battle techniques[edit]
- Defend: Reduces damage for one round
- Frenzy: Completely loses it and starts on a random (possibly friendly) target
- Focus Strength: Builds power for next attack
- Muster Strength: Builds power for next attack
- Paralysis Attack: Performs a melee attack with chance to paralyze target
- Poison Attack: Performs a melee attack with chance to poison target
- Sleep Attack: Performs a melee attack with chance to put target to sleep
- Body Slam: Sacrifices self to damage one enemy
Breath attacks[edit]
- Fire Breath: Deals minor fire damage to all enemies
- Flame Breath: Deals moderate fire damage to all enemies
- Inferno: Deals major fire damage to all enemies
- Scorch: Deals severe fire damage to all enemies
- Cool Breath: Deals minor ice damage to all enemies
- Freezing Blizzard: Deals moderate ice damage to all enemies
- C-c-cold Breath: Deals severe ice damage to all enemies
- Burning Breath: May paralyze a group of enemies
- Poison Breath: May poison a group of enemies
- Sweet Breath: May put a group of enemies to sleep
Debilitating magic[edit]
- Sap: Greatly reduces defence of one enemy
- Kasap: Reduces defence of a group of enemies
- Dazzle: Attempts to blind a group of enemies
- Dazzleflash: Blinds one enemy
- Fizzle: Seals spellcasting abilities of a group of enemies
- Fuddle: Attempts to confuse a group of enemies
- Snooze: Tries to put a group of enemies to sleep
- Kasnooze: Tries to put a group of enemies to sleep
- Venom Mist: Poisons one enemy
- Spooky Aura: Reduces an enemy's resistance to spells
- Disruptive Wave: Cancels all magical effects on enemies
- Tongue Lashing: Licks one enemy to cause goosebumps
- War Cry: Scares a group of enemies
- Sultry Dance: Tries to distract one enemy with a dance
- Weird Dance: Reduces MP of one enemy
- Weirder Dance: Reduces MP of one enemy
- Weirdest Dance: Reduces MP of one enemy
- Poof: Removes a group of enemies from battle
- Hocus Pocus: Random effect
Field magic[edit]
- Evac: Escapes from dungeon
- Zoom: Teleports to previously visited town
- Safe Passage: Protects party from damage tiles
- Tick-tock: Switches between day and night
- Peep: Scans treasure chests/pots, allows item appraisal
- Padfoot: Reduces random encounters
- Holy Protection: Keeps weaker enemies away
- Nose for Treasure: Determines nearby treasure
- Storeyteller: Reveals current location and floor
Healing magic[edit]
- Heal: Restores at least 30 HP
- Midheal: Restores at least 75 HP
- Fullheal: Restores all HP
- Multiheal: Restores at least 75 HP to all party members
- Omniheal: Restores all HP to all party members
- Meditation: Restores at least 500 HP
- Squelch: Removes poison from one ally
- Sheen: Removes a curse from one ally
- Tingle: Removes paralysis from all party members
- Zing: Tries to revive one ally with 50% success
- Kazing: Guaranteed to revive one ally
- Kerplunk: Sacrifices life to revive all party members
