The battle axe is a recurring axe in the Dragon Quest series. It is a mid-ranking axe that can typically only be wielded by physically powerful characters and vocations.
Characteristics
The axe's original design featured a head with three blades of differing size and gold designs throughout. It had a short handle with a leather strap at the end. The design featured in VIII is a double bit axe short enough to be wielded in one hand and has red cloth wrapped around the handle. The battle axe featured in IX has a longer handle, making it closer in appearance to a poleaxe. This design has been used in most modern games, with the handle being made long enough for the axe to be wielded with two hands.
