Effect | Has a chance to instantly kill an enemy when attacking. |
The Assassin's dagger is a recurring Knife in the Dragon Quest series.
Much like the Poison needle, it has a chance to instantly kill an enemy in a single strike, but it also capable of dealing normal damage as well. Unfortunately, it cannot chip away at the HP of a monster in the Metal slime familys 1 point at a time like the aforementioned dirk.
Appearances
Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation remake
The Assassin's dagger grants an Attack bonus of +25, a 6.25% (1⁄16th) chance to instantly slay a foe, and may only be equipped by Mages and Thieves. In the Super Famicom and Game Boy Color versions, an assassin's dagger can be found on the third T'n'T track near the Castle of the Dragon Queen and the Shrine of Shackles in a treasure chest. In all other versions, there is only one in the game, and it can be found in the basement of Romaria Castle, behind a door locked by the Ultimate Key.
It can be sold for 4,125 gold coins.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Game | Description |
A compact knife made especially for assassins.[2] |
The Assassin's dagger has an Attack bonus of +37. It can only be equipped by Jessica Albert, as well as Red in the Nintendo 3DS version. One can be found in the Arcadia Region in a treasure chest that requires the Thief's Key to open.
They can be dropped rarely by Anchormen, Claws in the PS2 and Cell phone versions, Jackal rippers, and Jumping jackals. Note: using Jessica's Sudden Death technique when the dagger is equipped will not increase the likelihood of the skill's success, and the instant death effect is absent altogether. It can be sold for 1,250 gold coins. The Assassin's dagger can be made in the Alchemy Pot and can be used to create an Imp knife, as well.
