Escudogre

From Dragon Quest Wiki
(Redirected from ShieldOgr)

The Escudogre is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest VII. It is a brawny, pink-skinned humanoid monster that wields one half of a mighty shield in each hand.

Characteristics[edit]

Escudogres are lumbering, reddish-pink skinned muscular demons, carrying two halves of an immense golden shield in their humongous hands. They wear leather loincloths around their waist covering orange trunks and spiked golden skullcaps on their heads. The ogres appear to be aged, as they have white beards, and they have two spikes on their large backs. The two halves of the shields they carry can be put together to form an enormous shield, practically as tall as they are, with a demonic blue-green face on it. The shields of escudogres are superb for defending against enemy attacks and protecting their weaker allies, as well as offense, either by bashing foes with them or exhaling a chilly breath from the demon's face on their shields.

In X, the ogres belong to the Humanoid family, but they have been part of the Material family in the Monsters series of games due to their shields.

Dragon Quest Rivals[edit]

Escudogre appeared in the basic card pack as a rare card common to all leaders.

Dragon Quest Walk[edit]

An escudogre appears as the boss of Chapter 6, Episode 6 of the main storyline, alongside a pair of Orc chieftains. Later on, it can be faced as a normal monster, as well. They can protect their allies with Forbearance, perform a Shield Bash, and can breathe out Freezing Blizzards.

Trivia[edit]

  • The escudogre's name is a combination of the words escudo, the Spanish and Portuguese word for shield, and ogre, a type of demon that appears in the folklore and myths of various cultures around the world.
  • Their monster description in X says that escudogres are simply monsters and have nothing to do with the Ogre race that appears in the game. However, later in Version 4.2's story, it is revealed that there is, in fact, a connection between the two.
