Saint's ashes is a recurring item in the Dragon Quest series. When it was introduced, it could be used in the Alchemy Pot to remove curses from cursed equipment, upgrading them in the process. In later games, it is used as a crafting material.

Saint's ashes are used in the Alchemy Pot in order to purify pieces of cursed equipment, allowing characters to safely use them with no harmful effects. Devil's tail is used for the opposite effect to place curses on items. Saint's ashes can be purchased as a casino prize at Baccarat for 5,000 tokens. Urns of saint's ashes can also be dropped by Dark ministers, Dark moths, Dark gryphons, Dark sabrecats, Silhouettes, and Wight kings. In the postgame, saint's ashes can be purchased at the Dragovian Sanctuary for 12,000 gold each and sold for 150.

Saint's ashes are used once again to cleanse cursed equipment in the Krak Pot. Urns of saint's ashes can be found in the Plumbed Depths* and the Magmaroo. They can be received from Cap'n Max Meddlin' in exchange for 8 Mini medals each after turning in 80. Some could be purchased for 1,600 gold from the DQVC during many sales when it was still available. One urn is received as a reward for completing Quest #21: Spud-She-Like and more can be received by repeating Quest #177: Tones of the Bones. Urns of saint's ashes have a 1% chance of being found in Rank 4 (F) blue treasure chests and a 10% chance of being found in Rank 7 (C) blue treasure chests. They can also be dropped by Sculptrices, Genie sanguinis, and Seaverns. The urns can be sold for 800 gold.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

Saint's ashes are used as a material for crafting weapons and armour or in Alchemy to give a Magical Mending bonus to armour and legwear. Starting with this game, it is simply used as a crafting material as cursed equipment does not exist. It can be purchased from a material shop for 1,300 gold, received by exchanging 2 Mini medals, occasionally found in black treasure chests, or dropped by certain monsters, including Gargoyles, A3G15s, and Hybirds.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

Saint's ashes can be picked up from a singular sparkly spot in the Fortress of Fear during the second act. Urns of saint's ashes can be found in the Royal Library, Arboria, the First Forest, the Heliodor Sewers*, the Heliodor Dungeons, and Havens Above. One urn is received as a reward for completing the first trial of the Wheel of Harma within 12 moves. After the player has filled out the album de médailles at L'Académie de Notre Maitre des Médailles, saint's ashes can be received in exchange for a Mini medal each. More urns can also be dropped by Silhouettes and their vicious counterparts, Dark sabrecats, Dark gryphons, and Wight kings. They can be sold for 800 gold.

Saint's ashes are used in the following recipes for the Fun-Size Forge:

Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below[edit]

Saint's ashes can be dropped by Corpse corporals and Cureslimes or received from King Flaminio in exchange for 5 Mini medals each on the Stonecloud. They can also be received as a reward for completing Showdown: Unholy Horde with gold clear time from the second time onward or Grudge Match: Unholy Horde with silver clear time from the second time onward. Saint's ashes can be used in the quick recipe for the Block-it locket or the classic recipe for the Gold rosary in the Alchemy Pot or sold for 450 gold. Three pinches of saint's ashes are required to complete Quest #62: Jilting the Jinx.

Dragon Quest Heroes II: Twin Kings and the Prophecy's End[edit]

Saint's ashes are used as a material for improving various accessories or sold for 450 gold. They can be dropped by Wight priests and Wight kings.

Saint's ashes are dropped by all variants of the Shadow minister or sometimes received by sending a dispatch team to the Greywing Bridge area of the Wingswept Moors. They are mainly used for crafting pellets at the Werks or for scouting monsters.
