Cyclown

From Dragon Quest Wiki

The Cyclown is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, debuting in Dragon Quest IV. It is a blue, humanish Elemental whose lower body is perpetually wrapped in a swirling whirlwind.

Characteristics[edit]

Cyclowns are blue humanoid creatures with cartoonish faces and two antennae on top of their heads. Their most notable feature is the cyclone that they ride around on, which they create with their legs and completely obscures the lower halves of their body. They are elemental spirits associated with wind and they attack their foes with sharp, cutting gales. When a Cyclown is defeated in IX, their whirlwind will disappear, revealing that their lower bodies are scrawny.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

Cyclowns reappear in the game from 7.4 onwards and fight the same way they later would after becoming Malicious under Calasmos's influence, via using Wind Sickles and casting Kaswoosh. Unlike other appearances, their lips are blue, similar to their sprites in the first two Monsters series games. Prior to the update, their tornados were doll board prisms for players to use in fast transportation.

Dragon Quest Treasures[edit]

A statue of a cyclown is Treasure No. 529 in the Monster Statues category. It can be found on the Paternoggin and its base value is 80,000 gold coins.

GameDescription
Dragon Quest Treasures Logo.png
A model of a monster from some faraway world.[1]

Dragon Quest Rivals[edit]

Cyclown appeared in the 9th card pack, "Reunion and Oath of Lotozetasia" as a normal monster common to all leaders. When summoned, it would inflict 1 damage to all other units in the front row.

Trivia[edit]

  • The cyclown's original Japanese name is kamaitachi, a yōkai (supernatural creature) from Japanese mythology. It is a mischievous creature, sometimes interpreted as a weasel, that rides on dust devils and is known to cut people with their sickle-like nails. The kamaitachi make frequent appearances in Japanese media, including anime, manga, and video games, and they often possess wind manipulation abilities. It also shares a name and origin with the recurring Wind Sickles skill, which it uses in battle during IX, X, and XI.
