The Weirdwood is an arboreal dungeon found in the HD remake of the original Dragon Quest. It is the lair of a sinister monster tasked with keeping an eye on the Dragonlord, and shields itself with a phantasmagoria-inducing fog that keeps all trespassers wandering helplessly in infinite loops.

The Weirdwood sits between the bridge connecting the island housing Damdara and the Citadel of the Monarch of Medals with the island Cantlin rests on, preventing players from visiting the walled city early. It is where the Mirage has spirited away the Dream-Whisperer after she was abducted from the Faerie Village, presumably so it can interrogate her for information concerning the Goddess Rubiss as it was doing to Princess Gwaelin in the Quagmire Cave before the Hero rescued her.

The fog can only be cleared if the Hero has the Princess's necklace, which allows her to channel her power as an oracle of Rubiss to dispel the illusions. If the Hero carries the Princess in to the dungeon then she will clear the trap herself. The Mirage will attempt to confuse the Hero by sending visions of the Captain of the Tantegel knights and his daughter the Royal Guard, but player will easily see through the ruse―the Princess will call the bluff on her own if she is present, as she insisted the two never address her in formal decorum. In either case the Mirage confronts the Hero after this as the dungeon's boss fight.

Players will need to keep an eye out for the undying flame flower, which is necessary for the Craft-Master faerie to create the sun sigil.
