The Leather armour, also known as the Leather suit, is a recurring suit of armour which is common in the Dragon Quest series. It is light armour which is often equipped near the beginning of various games.
Characteristics
The Leather armour consists of a simple breastplate and faulds made out of brown leather held on the body with belts. This lightweight armour provides a decent amount of protection early in the game and can even be equipped by characters and vocations who cannot wear heavier armour.

Dragon Quest
Due to text restrictions in the Game Boy Color remake of Dragon Quest, the leather armour was renamed to Leathr with a symbol for armour next to it. It is known as the Leather suit in the Cell phone versions.
Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line
The Leather armour has a Defence bonus of +6. It can only be equipped by the Prince of Midenhall and the Prince of Cannock, who both start the game with it equipped.
Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation
The Leather armour has a Defence bonus of +12. It can be equipped by the Hero, Warriors, Priests, Merchants, Thieves, and Sages. It can be purchased for 150 gold coins in Aliahan, Reeve, and Romaria and sold for 112 gold coins.
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen
The Leather armour has a Defence bonus of +12 and can be worn by everyone except Maya & Meena Mahabala. Laurel has this among his equipment.
It can be purchased for 180 gold coins and sold for 135 gold coins. Tessie will sell this at Torneko's shop for 270 gold coins.
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride
The Leather armour has a Defence bonus of +11. It can be sold for 135 gold coins and bought for 180 gold coins in the Faerie Lea and in Roundbeck. The Hero, Sancho, and Harry can equip it.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation
The Leather armour has a Defence bonus of +11 and a Style bonus of +15. It can be equipped by the Hero, Carver, Nevan, Amos, Terry, Lizzie, and Goowain. It can be purchased in Weaver's Peak, Haggleton, Somnia, and Port Haven for 180 gold coins and sold for 130 gold coins.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past
The Leather armour has a Defence bonus of +11 and a Style bonus of +15. It can be equipped by the Hero, Kiefer, Sir Mervyn, and Aishe. It can be purchased in Ballymolloy for 180 gold coins. Leather armour can also be won as a prize from the Lucky Panel at the Casino.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
The Leather armour has a Defence bonus of +11 and can be equipped by the Hero, Angelo, and Morrie. It can be purchased in Farebury for 180 gold coins and sold for 90 gold coins. The leather armour can be created in the Alchemy Pot by combining Wayfarer's clothes with a Magic beast hide. It can also be upgraded into the Scale armour by combining it with a Dragon's scale.

Leather armour can be created at a Mason's workstation or a Sewing station. To create a set, three pieces of fur, a piece of cord, and a copper ingot are required. When worn, leather armour has a Defence bonus of 9.

Leather armour is one of the basic pieces of equipment. It's divided in top and bottoms parts, and they're the only 1 star items in each category.
