Antidotal herb is a healing item in the Dragon Quest series. It is used to alleviate the poisoned status effect from a single character, having the same effect as the Squelch spell. In later games, it is also able to cure envenomation, as well. In games with Alchemy, it can be used to create more powerful healing items that can restore HP while curing poison at the same time.

Antidotal herbs make their first appearance in the series. The Hero can't learn spells in this game and the Prince of Cannock does not learn Squelch until he is level 6, making carrying a few in the inventory a necessity.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]
Antidotal herbs be purchased for 10 gold each. Since the only character who can use Squelch in the original NES version of this game is Kiryl, who only appears in the second and final chapters, this item is arguably more useful than it is in many other games. In particular, the fourth chapter has Funghoul enemies which can poison the player and neither of the two sisters can heal poison with Squelch in the original NES version of the game.
This doesn't apply to the remakes however, as Meena was given the Squelch spell as well, which she learns at level 4.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]
Antidotal herbs can be purchased from various item shops for 10 gold. Squelch is one of the first spells the Hero learns near the beginning of the game (when he reaches level 5), so the item isn't very useful here.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]
Antidotal herbs can be purchased for 10 gold. The player doesn't get a character who can learn Squelch until Milly joins the party, which takes a while, and Bubble slimes frequently appear in the period before she joins, so the item is fairly useful in this game.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]
Antidotal herbs can be purchased from nearly every item shop in the world for 10 gold each. There are no characters in this game who can learn Squelch by leveling up normally without vocations, so carrying a few in the early stages of this game is highly recommended. Antidotal herbs can also be won as prizes from the Lucky Panel at the Casino.

The antidotal herb can be purchased from most item shops for 10 gold and sold for 5 gold. Some herbs can be found in Farebury, the Tower of Alexandra, Port Prospect, and Peregrin Quay and it can be dropped by various monsters, including Bubble slimes, Funghouls, Scorpions, Walking corpses, Devilmoths, Bodkin fletchers, and Toxic zombies among others.
Antidotal herbs can be mixed with various items with the usage of the Alchemy Pot:

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]

Antidotal herbs be purchased for 10 gold each in nearly every item shop from Angel Falls to Upover and can also be collected from the Angel Falls and Zere regions. The herbs can also be dropped or stolen from Bodkin fletchers, Bubble slimes, Cruelcumbers, Gastropogs, and Sacksquatches. One antidotal herb, along with a medicinal herb and a moonwort bulb, are required to complete Quest #5: Herb'list. In this game, antidotal herbs are only used in a single recipe for the Krak Pot:

Antidotal herbs can be purchased from various item shops for 10 gold each, picked up from sparkly spots, or dropped by various monsters including Bubble slimes, Killer gilas, Bodkin fletchers, Phantom swordsmen, Ghouls, and Wight priests.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]
Antidotal herbs can be purchased from various item shops and roving emporiums throughout the world early in the game, from Cobblestone until Gondolia. Afterwards, shops will begin stocking Strong antidotes instead. Antidotal herbs can also be dropped by Bubble slimes and Walking corpses.

Dragon Quest Monsters[edit]
Antidotes can be purchased for 10 gold each. In this game, this item can also be given to enemy monsters and not just your allied party members. This might not appear to have much purpose at a glance, but if you heal a enemy's poisoned status it has a roughly equivalent effect of giving it Ribs (which costs 300 gold), so can be useful for recruiting monsters, particularly in the early game. For an example of how to do this, use a Hork with PoisonGas to poison the monster you wish to catch, then use the antidote to heal their poison status before defeating the monster.

Antidotal herb appears as Treasure No. 284 in the Items category and can be found on the Wingswept Moors. Its base value is 18,000 gold.
