The Balhib is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest V, it is a winged, centaur-like monster armed with an axe and brilliant, golden skin.
Characteristics[edit]
Balhibs are absurd parodies of the classic centaur, having a reptilian lower half that terminates in a long tail and a back covered by two bat wings. Their upper body is that of a muscular older man with a tall pair of horns, a wild mane of long purple hair, and a bushy mustache and eyebrows. They are usually portrayed as powerful monsters, having many strengths granted to them. As indicated by their original names, they are apparently made of gold and will drop a very large sum when defeated.

Appearing as a normal enemy properly in the main series for the first time since V, they are encountered near the end of the main game and can be summoned by Jasper in his Unbound form as a mockery of his former friend. Later in the postgame, they are brainwashed by the Dark One after his revival, but otherwise act the same as in the main game.
