The Cave of Confusion is the largest bonus dungeon in Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake, accessed in the postgame after beating Malroth and having "Erdrick" appended to the hero's name on the save file. The labyrinth was created by the dwarves of Alefgard on request from the Goddess Rubiss, who sought a safe haven for the Sphere of Light to be stored so that the forces of darkness could never reach it.

Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake[edit]
The portal to the dungeon is found inside the well of the newly resurfaced Cave of the Dwarves to the south of Rimuldar. Zoom and Evac don't work inside the dungeon; it is a marathon challenge with only a few portals leading out of the dungeon scattered across 25 floors, and only one path, staircase, or pitfall on each level leads to the next, with all others leading back to the entrance to the level. Like many bonus dungeons, it is composed of parts of previous dungeons, including areas from Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. The regular monsters found within are among the most formidable in the Erdrick trilogy, including phoenixes, baramonsters, and king hydras. Some monsters from the Ice Cave from the GBC version of Dragon Quest III (and probably more importantly, the Temple of Trials) also appear, such as golden glooms, hardy hands, and steely statues.
The exit from each level can usually be found near a barrel, chest, or other container holding a paltry amount of gold. On some levels, it is near a pandora's box.
At the end of the dungeon is the Sphere of Light. Bringing this to the Dragonlord's great-grandson will allow you to challenge him. If you win, he will upgrade Erdrick's sword and shield to their "Supreme" versions, and you will unlock the true ending (including a true final boss).
Treasures[edit]
Liberal use of the Snoop spell is necessary as a considerable number of treasure chests are pandora's boxes lurking to ambush careless players.

In addition to the listed treasures the Cave of Confusion also houses scrolls that teach the Bazoom, Critical Claim, Puff-Puff, & Spooky Aura abilities. The Critical Claim scroll is especially valuable as all four Scions of Erdrick can learn the skill and the only other way to get a copy is by defeating Xenlon.
