Maldragora is the primary antagonist in the second version of Dragon Quest X. He invaded the world of Astoltia from the Netherworld, seeking to acquire power of creation from Goddess Luciana and become a creator himself.
Characteristics[edit]
In his original Worldbreaker form, Maldragora has the appearance of a giant muscular older man with purple skin and three pairs of arms. The skin on his face is a lighter shade of purple than the rest of his body and he has long pointed ears, a set of curved horns on top of his head, and a long beard. His eyes have yellow sclerae with black irises and he wears two gold hoop earrings on his left ear. Maldragora's outfit consists of a golden breastplate with faulds attached, a tall collar with red lining, spiked shoulderpads on each of his shoulders, loose red pleated trousers similar to hakama, as well as red and gold slippers.
Around his neck, he wears a long red cape with dark green lining and gold designs near the hem along with golden designs similar to the mandibles of a stag beetle on his back. Around his waist, Maldragora wears a gold belt with a large red gemstone in the center. A long red tippet-like piece of cloth hangs in front of his collar down to his ankles featuring golden rhomboid and triangular designs. He also wears gold bracers on each of his wrists and his hands each have sharp golden fingernails.
When Maldragora changes to his Worldmaker form, he possesses the upper body of a dragon with six arms, the lower body of a bird with four legs, a large pair of feathered wings on his back, and he has a long purple serpent as a tail. The draconic parts of his body have purple scales and he has a tall red frill that runs down the top of his head, reaching all the way to the snake's head of his tail. His large horns have become black and he has smaller black spikes around his brow and down his neck. He still wears gold bracers on each of his arms and earrings on his left ear. The avian part of his body have golden feathers.

Etymology[edit]
Daimaō is a term for Great Demon Lord or Archfiend, unsurprisingly shared with other Dragon Quest villains like Zoma and Rhapthorne. This is fitting for Maldragora, since he ordered Nelgel to destroy Astoltia, and had more monsters waiting in another region in case Nelgel failed to kill the Hero, along with Maldragora himself having his own plans. (Eg, creating a new Rendashia to replace the old one.)
Trivia[edit]
- Maldragora is the third villain in the Dragon Quest series to merge/create a new world. The other two are Mortamor and Rhapthorne.
- In addition, he is the third main villain to have a family member, the first being Estark, and the second being Zoma.
- Maldragora's six-armed design is similar to cultural depictions of Asuras, who were a group of power-seeking deities featured in both Hinduism and Buddhism, described as having three heads with three faces each and either four or six arms. In Hindu texts, the Asuras are in a constant battle with the more benevolent Devas.
