Mariella is a recurring character in most versions of Dragon Quest II, having been elevated to the status of Hargon's second-in-command in Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake.

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit]
Mariella was one of the unnamed bunny girls who appear next to the King of Midenhall in the illusion created by Hargon in his citadel, which Yuji Horii revealed in a 2025 interview[1]. When the Eye of Rubiss is used to dispel the illusion, the bunny girls are revealed to be batmandrills and attack the Scions of Erdrick when spoken to.
Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake[edit]
Mariella has been written into a proper character for the HD remake, and is now Hargon's fanatically devoted servant. Her loyalty does not extend to her fellow high-ranking fiends, whom she openly despises, nor to the subordinates she uses as disposable tools. The animosity is mutual in both cases, with Belial going so far as to instructing the Scions of Erdrick on how to throw Mariella's deepsea base into chaos and her peons abandoning her when they assume they are under attack.
