The Citadel Tower is a small six-floor bonus dungeon in the remakes of Dragon Quest III and the HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest II. It is the outer structure of Cloudsgate Citadel and leads to the dragon God Xenlon.
Appearances
Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake
In Dragon Quest II HD a beam of light in the Faerie Palace takes players directly to Cloudsgate Citadel in the post-game, so Citadel Tower is the only bonus dungeon required to reach Xenlon. Several empty treasure chests are found in the tower, implying that it has been untouched in the centuries since Erdrick climbed it pearl steps.
As with the Shrine of Rain, the tower music from Dragon Quest III HD plays instead of Dragon Quest III's own tower theme.

Monsters
Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation
In Dragon Quest III it is practically a coda to a much larger bonus dungeon that takes the player from the Castle of the Dragon Queen to a mysterious floating island before leading to Cloudsgate Citadel, and should be no problem after that. Unlike the previous dungeon it is not composed of previous maps, but is a new design and tile set found nowhere else in the game.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake
The tower remains largely unchanged in the HD era, though the rope section has been replaced with floating platforms and there is now a franticore in need of rescuing. The beast is shy and will flee unless the player masks their scent with a pouch of musk.
