The Leather hat is a recurring helmet equipment item in the Dragon Quest series, first introduced in Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation. It is usually the first and most basic piece of headwear found in each game.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]
The Leather hat has a Defence bonus of +2 and can be equipped by all vocations except for Mages (in the original version of the game) and Martial Artists. It can be purchased from Reeve, Romaria, and the Immigrant Town in its early stages for 80 gold and sold for 60 gold. Leather hats can be dropped by Antnibblers, Spiked hares, and Mermaniacs. One can be found in Romaria and the first Treasures n' Trapdoors board.
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]
The Leather hat has a Defence bonus of +2. It can be equipped by all characters and is also among Oojam & Hank Hoffman Jr.'s default equipment.
It can be purchased for 65 gold coins from Burland, Zalenagrad, Lakanaba, Laissez Fayre, and Casabranca, and sold for 47 gold coins. Tessie will sell it at Torneko's shop for 97 gold coins.
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]
The Leather hat has a Defence bonus of +2 and can be equipped by the Hero, Bianca, Nera, the Hero's son and Hero's daughter, Harry, Sancho, Tuppence, and various monster companions. It can be purchased in Stockenbarrel for 65 gold coins and sold for 32 gold.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]
The Leather hat has a Defence bonus of +2 and a Style bonus of +2. The Hero, Carver, Milly, Ashlynn, Nevan, Amos, Terry, and Lizzie can equip them. Barksmen have a 1⁄32 chance of dropping one. They can be sold for 48 gold coins and purchased for 65 gold coins at Weaver's Peak, Haggleton, and Somnia.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]
The Leather hat has a Defence bonus of +3 and an Style bonus of +2. It can be equipped by all characters. It can be purchased from Estard for 65 gold coins and sold for 32 gold coins. Some can be found in various locations, including Pilchard Bay, Ballymolly in the present, Regenstein, the Roamer Encampment in the past, Alltrades Abbey in the past, Gröndal in the past, El Magnífico Puente de Pomposo in the past, and Spilton-on-Sea. They can be won as a reward from the Lucky Panel at the Casino.
Leather hats can also be dropped by Crested vipers, Tongue fu masters, Oligarchaeopteryxes, Sky fries, and Pogoin' penguins.

The Leather hat has a Defence bonus of +3 and everyone can equip it. It can be bought for 65 gold coins in Farebury and sold for 33 gold coins. Yangus starts the game with one already equipped. Beetleboys drop them rarely and Bunicorns, Dark sabrecats, and High rollers drop them commonly. The hat can be improved by mixing with different items in the Alchemy Pot:
