The Fortune Teller vocation makes use of tarot cards as a part of their うらない (divination) skills. A deck consists of 20 cards, and players can have up to six assembled decks in their inventory. The abilities run the gamut of attack to support, but are dependent on real life luck to draw the proper card for a given scenario. Fortune tellers can carry a hand of no more than five cards, and drawing a card will count as a turn in and of itself until they allocate 56 skill points into their divination.

Monster tarot cards are based on the real-life major arcana, touched up with familiar Dragon Quest monsters. Monster tarot cards are derived from the 22 major arcana and possess a slight additional effect on top of the main effect listed under the major arcana section. No matter the effect of a monster tarot card being played, it will have the same effect as the major arcana card it is based on. The variety of monster effects combined with the major arcana means that there is an astounding 1,716 different cards for players to choose from.

Major arcana[edit]

The following cards technically do not exist within the game, this list exists to clarify the base effect of each monster card that bears the name on top of the specific effect granted by a particular monster.

Offensive[edit]

Monster tarot cards[edit]

The minor effect of a tarot card is decided by the monster printed on it. The power of the effect is noted by a letter grade, being C, B, A, or S for normal sets and SS for exceptionally powerful monsters. The SSS rank is reserved for Dreadfiends, the elite henchmen serving the Archfiend characters of II, III, & VI. Cards are grouped together by individual species rather than by the broader Monster Families, consisting of pallet swaps for the most part.
