In Japanese, there are actually two separate but similar items which the localized English item of "magic Shield" describes:
- The first is マジックシールド majikku shīrudo (i.e. magic Shield), which first appeared in Dragon Quest V and has so far only appeared in that game and its remakes.
- The second is まほうのたて mahō no tate (Japanese for "magic Shield"), which first appeared in Dragon Quest VI before showing up in all main series installments that followed (as well as the remakes of Dragon Quest III), as well as some spin-offs.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]
Appearing only in the remakes, the magic shield can be equipped by all vocations save for the Martial Artist. It boosts Defence by +25, and cuts all magical damage by 25%. It can be purchased from Baharata, Mur, and Persistence for 2,000 gold and sold for 1,500 gold. It is also the most protective shield that a Mage can equip.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[edit]
