The Ruby of protection is a recurring accessory in the Dragon Quest series. It gives a boost to the wearer's Defence.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen (remakes only)[edit]
The Ruby of protection has a Defence bonus of +15 and can be equipped by all characters. One can be received from the King Minikin for turning in 20 mini medals, and others can be found in the fifth stage of the Pioneer Town and the Fungeon. It can also be dropped rarely by Scarewells and sold for 2,025 gold coins.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]
The Ruby of protection has a Defence bonus of +10, a Style bonus of +5, and can be equipped by the Hero, Maribel, Ruff, Sir Mervyn, and Aishe. It can be purchased from the Grand Conjuratorium for 3,500 gold coins and sold for 1,750 gold coins. One can be found in the Sunken Citadel in the present and another in Aeolus Vale in the past.

The Ruby of protection has a Defence bonus of +15 and can be equipped by all characters. It can be purchased from Argonia once the bazaar starts for 3,100 gold and sold for 1,550 gold. One can be found at the bank in Baccarat in a treasure chest that can be opened with the Magic Key and another in a pot at Orkutsk's item shop. It can also be dropped by Living statues and Elysium birds*, as well as Great keepers in the Nintendo 3DS version. The ruby can be made in the Alchemy Pot and can be used to create other pieces of equipment, as well.

The recipe book Sage Advice contains the recipe for the ruby of protection. It can be found in a treasure chest at the Sniflheim - Whale Way Station behind a locked door that requires the Ultimate Key.
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors[edit]
Rubies of protection may be won as a prize or obtained from a Lucky bag. It has a Defense bonus of +3 and increases the durability of the shield by 1. It can be sold for 750 gold coins.

The quick recipe for the ruby of protection can be received from King Flaminio in exchange for 7 Mini medals onboard the Stonecloud, while the classic and luxury recipes can be dropped rarely by Lethal armours.
Dragon Quest Heroes II: Twin Kings and the Prophecy's End[edit]
The Ruby of protection gives the wearer a 3% chance to ignore damage taken, up to a 7% chance once it has been fully upgraded. Once it has been fully upgraded, it will also grant a +8 bonus to Defence, as well. The ruby can be obtained by exchanging 10 Mini medals once or dropped rarely by Restless armours and Mandrake marshals.
Dragon Quest of the Stars[edit]
The Ruby of protection is a 4★ accessory with a max HP bonus of +5 that comes equipped with the Defence+ skill, which gives a +10 bonus to Defence. At max rank, the bonus can be boosted to +15. It can be created at the equipment workshop.
Dragon Quest Walk[edit]
The Ruby of protection is a 4★ accessory with a Defence bonus of +5 and a max HP bonus of +10. It also restores 2 MP to the wearer at the end of battle. It is received as a reward for completing chapter 8 of the main story.
Dragon Quest Tact[edit]
The Ruby of protection is an A-rank accessory with a DEF bonus of +15 and three slots for Alchemy Effects. It can be received randomly as a reward by playing the Bravas Treasures n' Trapdoors board.
