The dancing flame is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line, it is a ghost born of smoldering fury in the form of fire.

Characteristics

Dancing flames are somewhat humanoid in shape, having two arms, two legs, and a round body with a slight lump at the top to help put a head to their phantasmal face. In some titles, they are depicted as having blue fire filling the insides of their yellow-red fire bodies, indicating that their centers are much hotter than the rest of their body.

Seeing as how they appear to be fire itself, dancing flames are usually shown to be masters of fire attacks, both magic and skill based. Their fiery bodies also give a kick to their physical attacks, and provides them with full inferno immunity in all appearances. A dancing flame that burns for at least 1,000 years without being extinguished is said to evolve into an old flame.
