Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake[edit]
The player can explore the village early into the adventure when the Prince of Midenhall and the Prince of Cannock are making their way south to investigate the report of the destruction of Moonbrooke. There are a few handy treasures to be filched, but the way to the den of thieves is barred with a lock only the magic key can open.
The King of Dirkandor will mention the village in passing when the Scions of Erdrick rely on his information network to find the five sigils, and he will note that thieves have been looking for the legendary stones as well. He doubts that the wretches know of their real significance, but their collective activities add another obstacle to the young heroes' search and the pressure is on to find them first. This exchange is entirely optional as the echo flute will insure players make their way to the deserted Village during the hunt for the five sigils.
Upon entering the village the Princess of Cannock will state that she does not like the vibe of the place one bit, with the Princess of Moonbrooke timidly agreeing as she tries to reign in her fear. The older of the girls emplors the group to vacate the premises, which earns her some teasing from the Prince of Cannock. The Scions make their way to the sealed shack, marked by large candles set on boulders lining the trail, hearing an unusual sound from beneath the ground. Entering the building, they descend the stairs and discover the den where scoundrels would auction off their ill-begotten wares―the place seems to have been long abandoned, but the Scions encounter a Young Thief and an Information-Monger being cornered by a trio of furious monsters. The monsters have been robbed of the water sigil by the Young Thief on a tip from the Information-Monger and come to take it back, stating the sentencing from stealing from servants of Atlas is death and starting a boos fight with the Scions. The Young Thief fled in the confusion of the tussle and dropped the key to the depths of Moonahan while the Information-Monger cowered in the corner of the room. The Scions press him for the details on what happened and learn the wayward lad is from Moonahan, with the player having the option to tell the Monger the nature of the water sigil when he asks why it is important; regardless of how the player responds the Princess of Cannock will insist it the finest skipping stone the world over.
