A treasure map is a specialty item in Dragon Quest IX. They can be acquired in a number of different ways including Tag Mode, NPC characters, and the DQVC. When opened, a treasure map marks a particular spot on the world map where a secret grotto can be found. These grottos contain various things from bonus bosses to treasure chests.
