Effect Increases the wearer's Defence.

The Chain mail is a recurring set of armour in the Dragon Quest series. Light and easy to move about in, it provides a decent amount of protection to the wearer.

Characteristics[edit]

The item art for the chain mail includes a long sleeveless shirt made out of interlocking chains, also known as a byrnie or hauberk, as well as a set of metal pauldrons and a gorget that goes around the wearer's neck and shoulders. Worn around the waist is a metal belt. The chain mail generally provides a good amount of defence at a relatively affordable price compared to heavier sets of armour. In some illustrations, the chain mail has longer sleeves or is worn over a long-sleeved grey tunic.

The chain mail has a slightly different design in X, being a mail coat with long sleeves and lacings in the front, an orange belt worn around the waist, and lacking the shoulder pads. This design also appears in mobile games such as Stars and Walk.
