The iron cuirass is a recurring piece of armour in the Dragon Quest series that first appeared in Dragon Quest V. It is a mid-ranking piece of equipment that only covers the wearer's chest. Since it is not as cumbersome as a full suit of armour, it can be equipped by a wider range of characters and vocations.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]
The iron cuirass has a Defence bonus of +25. It can be equipped by the Hero, Harry, Sancho, Tuppence, and many monster companions. It can be purchased from Fortuna, Lodestar Harbour, Hay, and Helmunaptra for 1,000 gold and sold for 500 gold. One can also be found in the Whealbrook Adit and another in the Scary Lair. Iron cuirasses can also be dropped by Metal slime knights, Pokespersons, Jiggery-pokerers, and Red-hot pokers.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]
The iron cuirass has a defence bonus of +23 and a Style bonus of +4. It can be purchased from Wellshire and Amor for 1,000 gold and sold for 750 gold. One can also be found in the Moonmirror Tower and another in the Hallowed Hollow. It can be equipped by the Hero, Carver, Milly, Ashlynn, Terry, Amos, Lizzie, Goowain
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]
The iron cuirass has a defence bonus of +26 and a Style bonus of +4. It can be purchased from Pilgrim's Perdition and Alltrades Abbey in the past for 2,000 gold and sold for 1,000. It can be equipped by the Hero, Sir Mervyn, and Aishe.
- In the Nintendo 3DS version, iron cuirasses can be dropped by Robo-robins.

The iron cuirass has a defence bonus of +25 and can be equipped by Yangus and Morrie. It can be purchased from Ascantha for 1,000 gold and sold for 500. It can be dropped by killing machines, robo-robins, and buffalogres. The iron cuirass can also be upgraded into the silver cuirass by combining it with two silver platters in the Alchemy Pot.

Dragon Quest X[edit]
The iron cuirass has a Defence bonus of +11, a Style bonus of +3, increases the wearer's Weight by 11, and has an equipment level of 14. It can be equipped by Warriors, Priests, Thieves, Minstrels, Paladins, Rangers, Gladiators, Item Masters, Dancers, Demon Swordsmen, Pirates, and Armamentalists if they have allocated enough points into their Fource skill. In the Offline version of the game, it can also be equipped by Mjoll, Raguas, Hussar, and Duston.
Like many pieces of armour in X, the iron cuirass gained a counterpart for the legs slot. The entire set consists of the cuirass, a waistguard, a headband, armbands, and shin guards, and can be made with blacksmithing. If all five pieces are equipped, the wearer gains a +10 bonus to Style.
