The technicolor dollop makes its first appearance outside of the original trilogy in the Nintendo 3DS remake of the seventh game. It is a reward for defeating a Traveller's Tablet boss and will replicate the effect of the Lifeboat skill when used in battle. The Rainbow Drop can be used inexhaustibly and effectively frees the skill from being tied to the Pirate vocation.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

The Rainbow Drop returns once again in the 3DS and Nintendo Switch versions of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age.
