Dragon Family (Japanese Katakana: ドラゴン Romanji:Doragon) refers to monsters in Dragon Quest series that take on forms of traditional Western and Eastern dragons, dinosaurs, snakes, and turtles. Occasionally, dragon-shaped monsters or pallet-swaps are classified as members of the Aquatic or Beast families. Additionally, this family is referred to as the Beast family in Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart.

The shapes and capabilities of dragons within the series are as varied as in real-world mythology, but these monsters typically have the ability to breathe fire and many possess skills that can Poison and cause Envenomation towards enemies.

Effective weapons and skills[edit]

Dragons are vulnerable to the Dragonsbane, Dragon Slayer, Dragon claws and Dragonlord claws weapons, and as of the ninth game will take an additional 10% damage from any sword. The Dragon Slash skill will deal 50% more damage to dragons.
