Dragon Quest IX
|
Coffinwell is a town in Dragon Quest IX. It is located to the northeast of Stornway. With a great deal of high stone-made walls, the town's design is similar to that of an fortress, and is shaped as a shield. The Mayor's house is the highest house in the town. Staircases can be seen around the town.
Initially, its residents have contracted a deadly disease which is plaguing the entire town. The sickness is related to the nearby Quarantomb.

Trivia
- A with other towns in Dragon Quest IX, Coffinwell is named for its relation to the plot of the game. "Coffinwell" is actually a pun ("coughing" "well") on the town's sickness.
- Coffinwell also has the word"Coffin", hinting towards the people killed by the virus.
- The archeologist in Coffinwell is named Dr. Phlegming, this is a play on "phlegm"(the mucus created from coughing) and "Fleming"(the discoverer of penicillin).
- The name of a notable NPC in Coffinwell, Catarrhina, is a pun on the term "catarrh."[1]
- The name of the mayor is also a pun. "Mayor Laria", is a play on malaria, another disease.
