Slime Hill

Slime Hill refers to a named location in Dragon Quest IX and also an informal term coined for the best places to encounter metal slimes. The latter is not strictly literal however, as the best encounter spots can frequently be found within dungeons in addition to the overworld.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest[edit]

The compilation remake of Dragon Quest I & II assigned the desert south of Damdara as the most consistent spot that spawns metal slimes, which has carried forward into the GameBoy Color and Android/iOS ports.

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit]

The aforementioned compilation set the sixth and seventh floors of the Tower of the Moon as the best place to encounter liquid metal slimes, followed by the third floor of the Hall of Hargon.

Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake[edit]

Metal slimes appear fairly regularly in the southwest region of Alefgard, near the Citadel of the Monarch of Medals and the Field of Flowers as well as past the eastern bridge and right before the Weirdwood. Note that metal slimes flee less often than in other games, owing to the quest being a solo-outing with one playable character; even better is that the Hero requires far fewer experience points to level up than any of his peers.

Liquid metal slimes have been freshly added to the HD remake's bestiary and can be found on the first floor of the Dragonlord's Castle.

Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake[edit]

A slime island lies in the in-land sea directly south of Moonbrooke and east of Slewse. It can be accessed by sailing southeast from the Lighthouse and using the moonshard to destroy the shoals blocking entry to the strait. Metal slimes can be encountered alongside regular slimes and she-slimes as well as in group of up to eight, and liquid metal slimes will appear in groups of bubble slimes or in quartets of their own.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]

The open-ended nature of the game gives players several points to encounter metal slimes:

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[edit]

In addition to the locations from the previous iterations of the game, the HD remake added a genuine hill south of the Shrine of the Dwarf that can only be reached by flying on Ramia.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]

The debut of the metal king slime has greatly expedited the level grinding process, and the inclusion of the sands of time, Hela's hammer, and liquid metal sword has made defeating the silver globs much easier.

The Sony PlayStation remake released in 2001 added a Fungeon that includes platinum king jewels in the areas past Pinnacle Chapel.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]

The proliferation of skills such as Hatchet Man, Mercurial Thrust, Multifists, and Tongue Lashing has made it so any character can contribute to the hunt regardless of their equipment restrictions. This is balanced out by the slimes becoming more durable, with the metal king slimes in particular having far more HP than before. Of note is that metal slimes have taken the cue from their blue brethren and learned to combine into metal king slimes when eight or more appear in battle.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

The upper limit for all stats has been raised to 999, meaning even an unarmed character can potentially one-shot a metal slime.

  • Gröndal; the present-day region spawns only slimes, making it the first proper slime hill in the series.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]

The Defence stats of all metal slimes have been adjusted to account for the party member strength stats, meaning that skills and hunting techniques are once again necessary to defeat them.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]

It is located north of Angel Falls inaccessible at the beginning of the game. To unlock this area, the player must have fully completed the story. This is where all of the Slimes in Dragon Quest IX can spawn, and it is also where quest #55: "Mummy's little Hero and #142: "Prayermongering"

The game is also home to the legendary Masayuki map, a grotto dungeon that consistently spawns metal king slimes on the final floor. The map was named after its discoverer and was generated by pure chance through the game's RNG programming for the feature, becoming a nationwide sensation in Japan where it was passed along tens of thousands of times via Tag Mode.
