The Boss troll is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest III.

It is a powerful leader among trollkind, appearing as a boss in some games.

Characteristics

Great green goons that love to smack and smash anything and everything with their clobbering clubs. Goofily garbed in garish dark magenta fluffy outfits, they're not to be underestimated in battle despite their foolish fashion sense. They often make deadly desperate attacks that can down an adventurer with their great spiked clubs. Sometimes they'll attempt to Shove a single enemy right out of battle and out of action.

In Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince and in the HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest III, Boss troll's pink lips were changed into green lips, likely to avoid the resemblance of a blackface.

A Boss troll is acting as the King of Manoza when the Hero and party first arrives there. By using the Ra's Mirror, the Hero is able to reveal the impostor and fight the Boss troll.

A pair of Boss trolls are faced at the end of the optional Troll Maze dungeon, preparing to cook the Chancellor of Argonia, his wife, and their maid. The party will interrupt them in the middle of their preparations and face them in battle. These Boss trolls have nearly double the amount of HP as those faced in regular encounters, though it should not be a difficult encounter.
