Safe Passage is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series.

It prevents damage from traveling through harmful terrain, and in all appearances lasts for 128 steps with a cost of 2 MP.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit]

The Prince of Cannock and Princess of Moonbrook learn the spell at level 17 and 21, respectively.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]

Mages and Sages will learn the spell at level 21.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]

Safe Passage is learned by Maya Mahabala at level 21, and is already known by the 9th Chosen One upon joining.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]

This spell is learned by advancing to rank 3 of the Ranger vocation.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

Safe passage is learned by reaching rank 4 of the Pirate vocation in the original PSX version, and rank 2 of the Thief in the 3DS remake.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]

Safe Passage is learned by Mages at level 13 and rangers at level 3. It costs 2 MP to cast.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters[edit]

Called StepGuard in this game, this ability can be learned by various monsters. It requires the monster to be at least level 10, with at least 40 MP, and 34 Intelligence. Is is naturally learned by the DarkCrab, Droll, GiantWorm, Mimic, Stubsuck and WingTree, among others.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2[edit]

StepGuard now requires 62 Intelligence to learn. It is no longer naturally learned by the Mimic.
