The boss troll is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest III.
It is a powerful leader among trollkind, appearing as a boss in some games.
Characteristics[edit]
Great green goons that love to smack and smash anything and everything with their clobbering clubs. Goofily garbed in garish dark magenta fluffy outfits, they're not to be underestimated in battle despite their foolish fashion sense. They often make deadly desperate attacks that can down an adventurer with their great spiked clubs. Sometimes they'll attempt to Shove a single enemy right out of battle and out of action.
In Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince and in the HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest III, boss troll's pink lips were changed into green lips, likely to avoid the resemblance of a blackface. The decision to alter the monster's design has been met with considerable backlash the world over in light of Akira Toriyama's passing on March 1 2024, with many pointing out how insulting it is to compare the grossly inhuman features of the creature's face to those of any real-world ethnicity.
Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest X[edit]
Boss trolls appeared from the beginning of the game. Like their previous appearance, they can land Desperate attacks, but will just as easily waste their turns licking their clubs instead.
