After traversing through the Dungeon of Descent, the party meets up with [[Eustace]], [[Nava]], [[Zev]], and [[Fingers]] at the locked door that leads to the Abbey. Nava asks the Hero to hand her the key that High Priestess Jacqueline gave to them. Eustace, who has been suspicious of Nava for a while now, decides to confront her as to why she would need it. Unbeknownst to the group, a monster disguised itself as Nava and intended to keep anyone from reaching the Abbey again. The monster sheds its disguise and reveals that Nava is still alive, but it has eaten the old Head Priest. It provokes Zev into using the Soulstealer on Eustace, preying on his feelings of anger and resentment, and attacks the party. | |||
The monster is swiftly defeated, but Zev and Eustace are engaged in a swordfight. Although Zev manages to strike the guard's sword out of his hands, Eustace gets the upper hand and disarms Zev, taking the evil sword away from him. The Tunnel to the Abbey is a dungeon in Dragon Quest VII. It's connected to the Dungeon of Descent and is an alternate route to the Alltrades Abbey.
