Hardlypool (formerly Avon) is a village located on the same continent as Wetlock, just northwest of it in Dragon Quest VII.
Story[edit]
Hardlypool is the first village encountered by the party in the region. It is a sleepy little mountain village on the edge of a mountain range separated from the rest of the continent. The only way to reach the towns of Spilton-on-Sea and Wetlock in the south is through the Hardlypool Tunnel, which is filled with monsters. For this reason, the tunnel is normally guarded to protect the villagers. The villagers mention that it's rare to see travelers, and just a day ago, a traveling musician named Old Man Riffer visited Hardlypool as well, before heading to Spilton-on-Sea. Since the town does not have an inn, the Mayor invites the party for a dinner of stew and offers to let them stay the night. During the night, a mysterious song can be heard in the background. When the party wakes up in the morning, all of the townspeople of Hardlypool have mysteriously disappeared without a trace. Upon reaching the Highendreigh Tower, the party encounters the people of Hardlypool, who were brought to the tower by Old Man Riffer in order to save them from the flood. After the party defeats Gracos, the flood ends and town goes back to normal, allowing the villagers to return to their homes. Hardlypool no longer exists in the present.
