Etymology[edit]
In Japanese, these are two seperate monsters.
The elephant-looking version that appears in the 3DS version of DQXI is named ナウマンムーア (Naumanmūa) in Japanese, which is a portmanteau of the Japanese names for the enemies Naumannborg (ナウマンボーグ Naumanbōgu) and Mortamor (デスタムーア Desutamūa).
The one from the Switch version is named セルゲイムーア (Sergeimūa) in Japanese, a portmanteau of the Japanese names for Bilhaw (セルゲイナス Sergeinasu) and Mortamor (デスタムーア Desutamūa).
The English name "Mortamammoth" is a combination of the name "Mortamor" and the English word "Mammoth". This name presumably describes both of the above monsters, but it is also possible this was a localization error, as the word "Mammoth" is arguably more appropriate for a monster resembling an elephant than a monster resembling a Bilhaw - yet the latter is the only one that actually appears in an English language version of DQXI, as the elephant version is exclusive to the 3DS version, which never received a release outside of Japan.
