Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen
Drain Magic is learned by Borya at level 25 and by Maya at level 16. It functions exactly as it did in the previous game in the NES version, but follows the (Lvl/4)+5 algorithm set by later games in all remakes and subsequent ports.
The enemies Bloody blade, Mimic, Pandora's Box, and Voodoo gooroo can use this spell against the party.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation
Drain Magic is learned by Ashlynn at level 14, and by Goowain at level 3. Other characters can learn it by advancing to rank 6 of the Mage vocation. The algorithm changes considerably this time around, and the amount drained from an enemy is calculated as (Lvl/4)+5.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past
Drain Magic is learned at rank 1 of the Sage vocation, rank 4 of the Champion, and rank 1 of the Druid.
- The spell has been nerfed in the remake, using the formula of drained MP = 5~11 instead of DQ 6's formula.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Drain Magic is learned by Angelo once he invests 12 points into his Staff skill. The formula is (Lvl/4)+5 once again.
- In the Nintendo 3DS version, Red learns Drain Magic at level 40.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age
Veronica and Rab will learn Drain Magic at levels 24 and 28 respectively. The spell's formula this time is now dependent on Magical Might instead of level, with a stat range of 111~900 and drain range of 2. What this means is that a character with less than 111 Magical Might will drain 3~7 MP per use, and a character with 900 will drain 32~36 MP. The spell costs 0 MP to cast.
Dragon Quest Monsters
Known as RobMagic in this game, this spell can be learned by a variety of monsters. It requires the monster to reach at least level 7, with at least 32 max MP, and 28 INT. It grows into TakeMagic when the monster reaches level 13 with at least 58 MP and 52 intelligence. It is naturally learned by the BeanMan, Dracky, GoHopper, Oniono, SabreMan and WeedBug, among others.
Dragon Quest Monsters 2
RobMagic now requires 51 magic to learn and 94 intelligence to upgrade. It is naturally learned by the Aquadon and GhosTree.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker
Drain Magic can be learned from various skill trees.
- Mage Aid (4 points)
- Nightmare (4 points)
- Rhapthorne (4 points)
- Seal (11 points)
- Über Charmer (25 points)
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2
Drain Magic can no longer be learned from Seal. It can now be learned from Stormsgate Citadel for 10 points.
Dragon Quest Heroes II: Twin Kings and the Prophecy's End
Drain Magic can be cast by Lazarel and Teresa if they are wielding a heavy wand. It draws a magic circle in front of the caster that steals MP of any monsters that enter it. By holding down the button, the range of the spell can be changed with the analog stick. In this game, monsters do not have a set amount of MP so it can be drained indefinitely as much as desired.
The amount of MP drained is 3 at basic proficiency, with the amount increasing to 6 MP at level 9 heavy wand proficiency. More MP is drained if more monsters enter the magic circle.
