Rubblerouser is a spell in the Dragon Quest series that was introduced in Dragon Quest X. It creates a magic circle underneath a single enemy that impales them with a stalactite spire after a short time. It is related to the stronger spells Boulderbringer, Mountainmover, and Ridgeraiser.

Localization history[edit]

Rubblerouser is the first English localization of the ジバリア spell, debuting in 2017 with Dragon Quest Heroes II: Twin Kings and the Prophecy's End. It strayed from the series' tradition of using ka- and -le prefixes and suffixes, but would remain in use until Dragon Quest Treasures was released in 2022 where ジバリア was localized as Crag. This second localization was more in-line with the standard set by Richard Honeywood, and would continue through Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince.

Due to the oddity of there being two sets of names for one line of spells, this article will only cover the instances in which the Rubblerouser term is used and the untranslated games in which ジバリア appears.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest X[edit]

Rubblerouser can be learned by Thieves at level 15 and Rangers at level 12, casting it for 4 MP. It creates a circle on the ground that erupts after 10 seconds have passed, dealing 18~24 earth-element damage to all enemies within range. The damage range is fixed and is not affected by the caster's magical might.

  • In the Offline version of the game, it can be learned by the same vocations at the same levels and is already known by Duston when he joins the party. Due to the change in battle system, Rubblerouser will activate at the end of the next turn after it is cast, dealing 18~24 earth-element damage to all enemies.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

Erik learns Rubblerouser at level 10, and it costs 6 MP to cast. It will cause damage to an enemy just before they take action for three turns, dealing 7~13 base damage and reaching 33~39 once the former thief's magical might hits 85.

  • In the 3DS version, the spell activates at the very beginning of the round, independent of turn order.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3[edit]

The spell costs 4 MP and deals 14~15 Earth damage to all enemies at the start of the next turn cycle after being cast. As in X, it does not grow in power.

Terry's Wonderland 3D & Iru and Luca's Marvelous Mysterious Key[edit]

The spell has the same attributes as in Joker 3.

Dragon Quest Heroes II: Twin Kings and the Prophecy's End[edit]

Dragon Quest of the Stars[edit]

Boulderbringer is a C-rank spell that deals weak Rubblerouser spell damage, has a CT of 27s (22s at max level) and can be obtained from the Tortoise Fan.

Dragon Quest Walk[edit]

Rubblerouser can be learned by Thieves at level 25 and costs 6 MP to cast. It will continuously deal a small amount of Rubblerouser-type spell damage to a single enemy for a few turns.
