Admiral Mogsworth | |
Dragon Quest Treasures | |
Japanese name | ニャゴス |
Romaji | Nyagosu |
Title | Vainglorious Hunter |
Race | Jailcat |
Voice actor | Hiroshi Kamiya (JP) Kevin Eldon (English) |
Admiral Mogsworth is an ex-member of the Thunderous Plunderers and a bumbling-yet-friendly rival to Erik and Mia during their adventures in Draconia.
Appearance and Personality[edit]
Mogsworth is a Jailcat that has learned to walk as a biped and wear human clothing, specifically red shorts, a studded black belt, black booties, a black choker with gold studs, a replica of Captain Long John Silverbones' coat that is too large for him, and an eyepatch shaped like a cat's paw. His strikes are a light shade of purple instead of his kind's typical blue, and his blond hair has grown into a mohawk with green highlights.
Mogsworth has an inflated ego, as evidenced by his self-granted title of Admiral, and yet he is also desperate to prove his value in the eyes of Silverbones. Despite his egomania and considerable eccentricities, Mogsworth is a friendly if peculiar monster: his crush on Mia prompts him to have her escorted to safety, he shows genuine concern for Erik's wellbeing upon finding him in dire straits on the Snouterhorn, and compliments Gayle's cleverness when she muses that using a stun pellet on a certain brute might be wiser than fighting it head on.

Dragon Quest Treasures[edit]
Mogsworth is the first member of the Thunderous Plunderers that the player meets, sitting on a barrel and talking to himself outside of the holding cell where Mia was placed in; Mogsworth was the one to find her passed out on the Paternoggin and ordered his subordinates Shady and Shambles to bring her back to the camp. He further explains that the islands of Draconia are positively littered with loot before dashing off to go treasure hunting, instructing his two goons to not let Mia leave the base for her own safety. After doing the two a favor and setting out into the Paternoggin to find Erik, Mia bumps into Mogsworth and a slime named Goonther just beyond the boundaries of the pirate base and explains that she's looking for her lost brother. Mogsworth recalls that he saw a boy with blue hair and blue eyes in the abandoned factory at the top of the Snouterhorn spire, and insists that he and Goonther accompany Mia for safety as the monsters of the island will be too strong for her.
The group proceeds to explore the factory, finding Erik and Purrsula unconscious on the top floor, and is suddenly ambushed by a Heartless hunter. Mia and Erik reunite after the machine is scrapped, and the lad points the group to the massive treasure chest that he and Purrsula managed to unlock before losing consciousness. The chest is revealed to be empty but before Mogsworth and the siblings are able to get a word in, a squad of Sylphanian Expedition members led by Captain Levanter burst on to the scene. Levanter and Mogsworth start arguing instantly, but before a fight can start none other than Captain Silverbones enters the scene, flying over the roofless factory on his floating ship and gloating that he had taken the treasure- a dragonstone known as the amethyst fang. The sinister skeleton then informs Mogsworth that the loot he has been dragging back to the base is nothing but rubbish, and that he is henceforth exppeled from the crew. Silverbones departs after dismissing the children as nothing special and taunting Levanter, with a panicking Mogsworth chasing after the flying boat.
The down-on-his-luck cat is next encountered on Cinderback Ridge, where he plans to steal the amber horn dragonstone from the magmantes on the confident assumption that Silverbones will let him back into the crew for such a prize. Mogsworth ignores Gayle's warning that the crispy cyclops is too tough and is promptly beaten down, even when he switches tactics to just steal the dragonstone instead of besting the behemoth in a straight fight. Mogsworth bemoans that his pinching prowess wasn't what he thought it was, but the little Sylphania mentions that a snag-and-sprint approach isn't such a bad idea if the magmantes can be incapacitated with a stun pellet. Mogsworth's mood does a complete 180 and he thanks Gayle for the advice, dashing off to acquire the ingredients before she even has a chance to list the materials.
Mogsworth is next found on the Wingswept Moors, after the player completes the adventure quest "Mogsworth's treasure". Upon opening the plain wooden chest at the edge of Swoop Swamp and finding his lunch, Mogsworth leaps in to tell the food filchers off only to be startled that its one of his friends. He then confides that his reputation, and self-worth, have taken a nose dive after being excommunicated by Silverbones, and that a rival is exactly what he needs to whip himself back into shape: he challenges the children to a treasure hunting contest with all he has on the line. Over the course of four treasure hunt quests, Mogsworth will come to see Mia and Erik as the ideal bosses and put in his application with Miss Cecily on Eggshell Island.
