Godbird's Eyrie is a dungeon the Hero and party reach due to help from Empyrea in Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King.
It is located on the Isolated Plateau in both the World of Darkness and World of Light. The map is the same for both.
Story[edit]
After the party proves themselves to Empyrea by facing her in battle, she asks them to journey to the top of her nest, where she has laid an egg. Since she has drawn the ire of Rhapthorne's minions, Empyrea is unable to approach the nest anymore and the monster Gemon is holding her egg hostage. The godbird carries the wagon and the party to the base of the eyrie in her talons, but cannot approach any further for fear of drawing the attention of the monsters. The party makes their way to the top of the nest to face Gemon and his minions in battle. Gemon is shocked to see humans from the World of Light in the eyrie and quickly deduces that Empyrea has enlisted their help, then attacks them.
The party is able to defeat the evil gryphon after a tough battle, but Gemon manages to get the last laugh by sacrificing himself with his dying breath to destroy Empyrea's egg. Empyrea arrives suddenly when she hears the commotion and is devastated upon seeing the remains of the shattered egg. Jessica apologizes to her for not being able to save her child, but Empyrea insists that it was not their fault and offers to take them back to the World of Light. However, just as they are about to leave, the spirit of Empyrea's child appears and offers to lend his soul to the party so that they will have the ability to fly. He turns into the Godbird's soulstone so that the party will be able to take him with them. Empyrea then explains that the power is limited to the World of Light, then takes the party back to the wagon to return to their world.
