The Overworld is the world map used for a large portion of Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation. It is connected to Alefgard through the Great Pit of Giaga. An astronomer in Lozamii notes the world is a sphere that moves through space, but the southern and northern edges of the map still link to each-other instead functioning like a proper sphere.

Geography[edit]

The map is an initiation of Earth, with many regions and kingdoms drawing parallel to the real world (Romaria~Rome, Jipang~Japan, etc). The only exception is the continent containing Aliahan which is the hero's origin and starting point in Dragon Quest III.

Dragon Quest III roughly corresponds to the age of exploration, with the references to the colonization of the new world, the spice trade of the near east, and the first contact that Japan had with the West, among other instances.
