The Corpse Corporal is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest II, it is a stronger version of the walking corpse.
Characteristics
The creepy corpse corporal shuffles soulessly until it encounters an enemy, and even then they seem almost catatonic. But when they do spring to life they love to lick the party in a way that leaves them helplessly paralyzed so they can shuffle haplessly and strike. They also emit an eerie aura that leaves enemies open to extra damage from slung spells.
It is unknown why the corporal sprites alternate between being faithful to the artwork's colors and wearing grimey green, and what caused this inconsistency in the first place. In most games, the corpse corporal has a deathly pallor, red eyes, and brittle hair the color of straw while wearing a raggedy red tunic with a black belt and brown or dark green trousers. In Dragon Quest II and the Builders games, the corpse corporal has sickly jaundiced yellow skin, light brown hair, and a green tunic worn with blue trousers instead.
