Crack is a recurring offensive spell in the Dragon Quest series and the first in the Crack family of ice spells. Introduced in Dragon Quest III, it has become a staple commonly learned by Mages and other users of offensive magic in the series.
Crack is often depicted as a sudden growth of ice crystals that cut into a single enemy. The crystals become larger, more abundant, and far more chilling in appearance as the spell family advances, extending its target range along with its power. It is related to the stronger spells Crackle, Kacrack, and Kacrackle.
Appearances
Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation
Crack is learned by Mages and Sages at level 5, and deals 25~35 points of damage for 3 MP.
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen
Crack is automatically known by Borya at level 1, and deals around 10~16 damage for 2 MP. The reason for the lowered damage output is the concern over difficulty balance in the beginning of the second chapter.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride
Absent from the original SNES version, Crack targets a single foe, and deals between 25~35 damage for 3 mp. It is learned by the following playable characters.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation
Milly learns this spell at level 9, as well as the Dreamaera companion at level 7 in the Super Famicom version, but Milly is the only character in all other versions of the game who can cast it. It inflicts between 25~35 points of damage for 3 MP.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past
Crack once again inflicts between 25~35 damage for 3 MP and can only be learned by reaching rank 1 of the Bone baron vocation. It is also used by High Priestess Jacqueline when she aids the party.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Crack is learned by Jessica at level 10. It costs 3 MP to cast and initially deals between 20~30 damage until her wisdom exceeds 32, with a maximum of 44~52 once her wisdom hits 64.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies
Crack is learned by Mages at level 6 and Minstrels at level 8, and costs 3 MP. It pierces a single enemy with razor-sharp icicles, dealing 25~35 base damage before the caster's magical might reaches 50 and capping at 114~123 at 999 magical might.
Dragon Quest X
Crack is learned by Magi at level 6, Minstrels at level 8, and Death Masters at level 56. It costs 3 MP to cast with a range of 15 meters, and damage is calculated as Magical Might x 0.24 + 9.5 with an upper limit of 86~90.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age
Veronica and Rab join the party having already learned Crack, and can cast it for 3 MP. It inflicts 19~29 damage, and a maximum range of 43~53 once their Magical might reaches 174.
Dragon Quest Monsters
IceBolt deals 25-35 points of ice damage for 5 MP. It is learned naturally by 1EyeClown, BigEye, GoatHorn, IceMan, Metaly, Mommonja, Servant, Snaily, TreeBoy, WindBeast, Yeti as long as they have 16 max MP and 30 INT. Crack will naturally upgrade into Crackle and later into Kacrackle as the monster levels up.
Dragon Quest Monsters 2
IceBolt now requires 54 intelligence to learn. It is naturally learned by the Beavern and MerTiger. It is no longer naturally learned by the Mommonja or TreeBoy.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker
Crack pierces an enemy with sharp icicles. It costs 2 MP to cast and can be learned from:

Crack is the main spell that Jessica can cast in battle and can be learned for 4 skill points. She fires three ice shards in front of her for 6 MP. As her level increases, she can upgrade the spell and also cast Crackle and Kacrack by charging up Crack. Like all ice-based spells and skills in the game, it has a chance to freeze enemies in their tracks.
