Zapple Strash is a sword technique introduced in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai as one of Dai's signature moves, an Avan Strash performed while channelling a Raidein (Zapple) spell through the user's weapon. In media where Raidein is translated as Zap, this technique is instead known as Zap Strash.

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai[edit]
After the heroes' disastrous first battle with Hyunckel, whose armour repels both swords and spells, Popp comes up with the strategy of using a Zapple spell that can pass through metal. As only Heroes can use lightning magic but Dai lacks the skill to do so properly, they practice casting it collaboratively: Popp first using Reclimatize to create stormclouds overhead, then Dai calling down a Zapple fuelled by the storm's energy.
While this strategy succeeds in landing a direct hit on Hyunckel, he proves far more durable than expected and continues to dominate Dai in battle. In desperation, Dai instinctively uses the Dragon Knight's Magic Sword ability to strike Hyunckel with a Frizz-imbued slash which damages his armour, then calls down another Zapple into his sword and channels its power through his imperfect Avan Strash, creating a blow powerful enough to defeat Hyunckel.
Zapple Strash would remain Dai's strongest attack for a large portion of the series, until being surpassed by Avan Strash Cross and Giga Strash (the latter of which can be considered a fusion of Zapple Strash and Gigabreak).
Nova's finishing move Northern Grand Blade has been described as equivalent to Zapple Strash in power.
