Thunder Thrust

From Dragon Quest Wiki

Thunder Thrust is a recurring spear ability in the Dragon Quest series. It attempts to launch an all-or-nothing critical strike.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]

The Hero can use Thunder Thrust as a spear technique after investing 12 skill points into the associated skilltree. It has a 50% miss rate, a 25% normal hit rate, and a 25% critical hit rate. After investing 59 points, it is replaced with the more effective Lightning Thrust for a 50% crit rate.

  • In the Nintendo 3DS version, Thunder Thrust will no longer consume Tension even if the attack connects.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]

This ability is learned with 58 skill points invested into Spear skill. It starts off with a 50% accuracy and has no improved version.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

Thunder Thrust can be learned by Priests, Paladins, and Item Masters by allocating 76 points into the Spears skill. It has the same properties as the previous game.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

Serena and Jade will learn the skill through the Spears section of their character builders for 18 and 6 points respectively. It is a hidden skill for Serena, requiring at least four of the surrounding panels to be unlocked first before learning. It costs 4 MP to use and retains the 50% accuracy, but is now no longer affected by Dazzle and the target's evasion.

  • Jade will unlock Lightning Thrust for 16 skill points. It has a higher accuracy of 67%, and costs 9 MP to use.

Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below[edit]

Thunder Thrust appears as one of Kiryl's basic attacks that costs no MP that can be used by pressing and holding down the Triangle button. The longer Kiryl charges the thrust for, the higher the damage will be.
