Fissure is a recurring ability in the Dragon Quest series. The skill attempt to open up a chasm to send enemies to their doom. It must be noted that the animation shows a sucking vortex pulling enemies into the gorge, which explains why the skill is effective against flying foes.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]
Fissure is learned by advancing to Rank 5 of the Sage vocation. The skill is a free version of Kathwack, utilizing the same resistance table. It is useful for players that prefer to conserve MP, but there is a 33% chance for the skill to fail regardless of its target's vulnerability, and cannot be used while at sea.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]
In the original PSX version and the 3DS remake, Fissure can only be learned by reaching rank 4 of the Golem vocation and it possesses the same aspects as in VI. The only enemy who uses it is the Earth Spirit.
