A mini medal is an item hidden throughout many Main Series games. They are often found in chests of drawers, treasure chests, and other searchable locations. Collected mini medals can be exchanged for various prizes in the game in which they are found, usually with the Medal King or a similar monarch-themed character.

Mini medals first appeared in Dragon Quest IV, where 32 mini medals could be found and exchanged at Minikin's Dominion. Since then, mini medals appear in every mainline Main Series game, and several spin-offs, with mini medals being retroactively added in the remakes of the series' first three entries. Mini medals usually appear in finite quantities in most games, but are sometimes also obtainable as dropped items from monsters. Depending on a game, receiving all items from a mini medal exchange requires all mini medals in the game, whilst in others, the quantity of mini medals available is greater than that required for all items.

In the NES version, a total of 32 medals could be found, which were used as a separate currency for the prizes offered by the medal king.  A player could get more than one of the same prize offered by the medal king; however, in order to get the best prize the player could not buy any other prize, as it cost 32 medals.

Only found in the Japanese version of the game, they can be obtained by doing the daily quest, randomly by completing quests, and as event rewards. There are two reward lists, one that is permanent and another that changes every few months. In both cases, players can obtain rare materials and cosmetic equipment, such as the outfit of the hero of Dragon Quest Swords. One of the most important mini medal reward is the scroll that unlocks the Brave Knight vocation, a very powerful offensive vocation.
There are also dark medals and super dark medals, obtained by defeating Fiend-difficulty and Archfiend-difficuly foes. Both of these types of medal allows the players to obtain rare materials and exclusive cosmetic.
DQTact
Mini medals can be earned by meeting certain requeriments when finishing quests or from breaking pots and opening chests in quests. Mini medals can be given to King Maximog in exchange for new units, rare materials, and equipment.

Effect Can be exchanged for various prizes

A mini medal is an item hidden throughout many Dragon Quest games.

Since then, mini medals appear in every mainline Dragon Quest game, and several spin-offs, with mini medals being retroactively added in the remakes of the series' first three entries. Mini medals usually appear in finite quantities in most games, but are sometimes also obtainable as dropped items from monsters. Depending on a game, receiving all items from a mini medal exchange requires all mini medals in the game, whilst in others, the quantity of mini medals available is greater than that required for all items.
