Axes of Evil is a recurring ability in the franchise. It hits a group of enemies with a vortex formed by a powerful swing.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]

Yangus can use Axes of Evil as an axe technique after allocating 54 skill points into the associated skill. This skill possess a wind attribute, making it impractical to use against certain enemies. It is affected by Yangus' tension, however, allowing it to overcome any enemy resistance with sufficient level. Damage is calculated as a whip strike, with each blow dealing less as more enemies are struck.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]

This ability is learned with 88 skill points invested into Axe skill. It costs no mp to use, loses the wind element from VIII and damages an enemy group with the same calculations as a whip strikes ( 0.8, 0.7, 0.5, etc).

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

Hendrik learns axes of evil as the final skill in his axe path, using 20 points to unlock it. It takes 16 MP to use, and hits all enemies for 220% damage with no reduction per slash.

Yangus uses axes of evil as his Coup de Grâce, which he can use when in a state of super high tension. When used, he spins while swinging his axes so fast, he creates a vortex that deals heavy damage to enemies in front of him.

Dragon Quest Tact[edit]

Axes of Evil can be learned by Yangus at level 52. It costs 56 MP to use and inflicts 260% potency physical damage to all enemies in a radius of 1 around him. Upgrading the ability increases its damage and reduces the amount of MP it costs to use.
