The Slaughtomaton (デスマシーン, Death Machine) is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing as a boss in Dragon Quest VII at the depths of the Automaton Stronghold.
Its English name is a portmanteau of the words "slaughter" and "automaton".
Characteristics[edit]
Slaughtomaton is a green mechanical monster that appears like an armored knight with an oni face in the center of its chest. The machine has a helmet with purple horns (or blue horns on some artwork and games) on top of its head and dual wields a pair of swords with purple handles and hilts. Its feet and the top half of its demonic face are sea green and it has eye-like structures on its helmet, shoulders, and knees. The mouth opens back and forth to reveal its sharp fangs and a purple tongue (or blue tongue for certain games and artwork). The Slaughtomaton is a force to be reckoned with, as it is capable of blinding its enemies and using a variety of deadly attacks, such as breathing fire. Its design also bears a resemblance to Psaro the Manslayer's fifth form.
Story[edit]
Slaughtomaton is the trump card that the Tinpot Dictator uses against the party after being beaten by them and summons it with his last breath. When he summons the monster, it crushes his body. It then sets its sights on the party. However, it is eventually defeated as well, shutting down and disappearing for good.

Strategy[edit]
The party fights this battle right after defeating the Tinpot Dictator. Conserving MP and healing items from the last fight is instrumental.
The Slaughtomaton can use Dazzleflash which, if it lands, can decrease the accuracy of the party. It can breathe flames, causing 15-20 HP worth of damage. Every so often, it will use Double-Edged Slash, which is a devastating attack, inflicting 40~50 damage on a single character. However, some damage will be reflected back to it.
Maribel should use Sap although it only has a slight resistance to it and it is capable of casting Magic Barrier. Kiefer should use the combo of Focus Strength and Flame Slash on the enemy. The Hero should attack, stopping only if a party member is low on HP. Ruff should constantly attack, stopping only if the party is really hurting and the Hero and Maribel can't heal fast enough.
The mech has a very low resistance to Ruff's Aooo! ability, making it possible to survive the fight with the bot making next to zero attacks.
