Mercurial Thrust is a recurring ability in the franchise. It gives the user an immense priority in turn order, often going first.

Appearances

Dragon Quest VI

Mercurial Thrust has the third highest priority of any ability in the game, trailing behind only Double Up and Kaclang, but attack power is reduced to 80% when used. It is obtained by advancing to rank 5 of the Warrior vocation.

Dragon Quest VII

Mercurial thrust operates exactly as it did in the previous game, and is learned by reaching rank 4 of the Warrior, rank 2 of the Berserker, and rank 7 of the Notso Macho

Dragon Quest VIII

The hero can use Mercurial Thrust as a spear technique after investing 7 skill points into the associated skill. The skill has received an upgrade under Level-5, and now always goes first turning a turn.

Dragon Quest IX

This ability is learned with 3 skill points invested into Spear skill, and operates exactly as it did in VIII.

Dragon Quest Monsters

Called SquallHit in this game, it requires the monster to reach level 12 with 72 HP, 68 attack, and 82 agility. It is naturally learned by the Anteater, Grizzly and Phoenix, among others.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2

The requirements to learn SquallHit are unchanged. It is naturally learned by the Aquarella, among others.
