Double Up is an ability in the Dragon Quest series. It has changed significantly throughout its appearances, but it always affects the potency of the user's attack.

Appearances

Dragon Quest VI

Double Up strikes at 200% power, but the user suffers increased damage during the round. The skill has the second highest priority of any action in the game, trailing only behind Kaclang.

It is learned by Carver at level 14 and by Spot at level 16. Other characters can learn it by advancing to rank 3 of the Paladin vocation.

Dragon Quest VII

Localized as Berserker in the PSX version, the skill is learned by reaching rank 3 in the Paladin vocation.

Dragon Quest IX

This ability is learned with 22 skill points allocated into Guts skill. It increases attack by two stages, while lower defence by one stage. The bolstered attack state lasts 6~9 turns, and the crippled defence 7~10.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

Hendrik will learn double up through his Heroism skill tree for 16 points. It costs 4 MP to use and operates as it did in IX.

Dragon Quest Monsters

Called Berserker in this game, it requires the monster to reach level 14 with 98 HP, 84 attack and 84 defense. It is naturally learned by the Almiraj, Gasgon, Spikerous, Tortoceratops and Trumpeter.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2

The requirements to learn Berserker are unchanged. It is naturally learned by the Aquadon, Orligon and Titanis.
