Weird Dance

From Dragon Quest Wiki

Weird Dance is an ability in the Dragon Quest series. It reduces the MP of the target, and is related to the skills Weirder Dance and Weirdest Dance

Appearances

Dragon Quest V

Weird Dance is learned by several monster companions such as the Goodybag. MP reduced is 1~2, being the weakest of its skill group. This set the standard for all monster versions of the skill.

Dragon Quest VI

Weird Dance is learned by advancing to either rank 3 of the Dancer vocation or rank 4 of the Merchant vocation. In this installment the skill received the same upgrade as Drain Magic, meaning that magic absorbed is the user's level/4 +5.

Dragon Quest VII

Weird Dance is learned at rank 3 of the Dancer vocation in the PS1 and 3DS versions of the game. In the original it uses the level-based calculations as in VI, but in the remake it merely drains 5~12 MP regardless of level.

Dragon Quest IX

Used as a dance by certain enemies like the Bag o' laughs.

Dragon Quest Monsters

Called OddDance in this game, this ability can be learned by various monsters. It requires the monster to be at least level 10, with at least 54 HP, 27 MP, 63 agility, and 49 intelligence. It grows into RobDance when the monster reaches at least level 12 with at least 68 HP, 39 MP, 85 agility and 61 intelligence. Is is naturally learned by the CactiBall, among others.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2

OddDance now requires 89 intelligence to learn and 110 to upgrade to RobDance. It is naturally learned by the Eggplaton and Slurperon, among others.

Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below

Enemy bag o' laughs are capable of using Weird Dance in battle. When used, they will project a magical field surrounding them that will drain the MP of any character that happens to be caught within.
