Helm Splitter is a recurring skill in the Dragon Quest series. It reduces the enemy's defence for 7~10 turns, with the exact amount varying between games.
Appearances
Dragon Quest VII
In the Nintendo 3DS version, Helm Splitter can be learned by advancing to rank 4 as a Gladiator or rank 2 as a Champion. It costs no MP to use and has a chance to reduce the enemy's Defence by 50%. Since it is an advanced skill, it can only be used by those vocations.
Dragon Quest VIII
Yangus can use Helm Splitter as an axe technique learned after investing 6 skill points into the associated skill tree. It reduces a foe's defence by 50%, effectively casting Sap on them.
- In the 3DS version, it reduces defence by 25%.
Dragon Quest IX
This ability is learned with 35 skill points invested into Axe skill.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age
Hendrik will learn Helm Splitter through the Axes panel in his character builder. It costs 6 points to learn, 3 MP to use, and has a fixed of 50% to cut the target's defence in half. It also hits for 120% damage.
- Later on, Hendrik can learn an enhanced version of the skill called Scrap Mettle for 16 points, which deals 150% damage, has a 75% chance to cut defence, and costs 9 MP to use.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker
Helm Splitter can be learned from various skill trees.
- Berserker (6 points)
- Cluboon III (8 points)
- Diminisher (40 points)
- Fire Fighter (13 points)
- Graveheart (14 points)
- Materialist (14 points)
- Reaper (3 points)
- Saboteur (26 points)
- Warrior (5 points)
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2
Helm Splitter can no longer be learned by Berserker, Diminisher, or Saboteur, and Materialist now requires only 7 points.
Dragon Quest Tact
Helm Splitter is known naturally by Bullfinch, Gripevine, and Pruslas at level 1 and can be learned by Hammerhood at level 16. It costs 12 MP to use, inflicts 130% potency physical damage to a single enemy, and can reduce their Defence for 3 turns.
